Endesa Net Factory is a subsidiary of Endesa, one of the
largest electricity providers operating in Spain and Latin
America, and is responsible for initiating innovative technology
projects. Endesa Net Factory, along with the consulting
services of Arthur D Little, launched a large-scale Power
Line Communication (PLC) pilot with the objective of testing
the delivery of Internet, VoIP and data services to households,
SOHOs and SMEs by way of electricity power lines.
THE PLC PROJECT
The PLC pilot is targeting 3,000 households in Zaragozza,
Spain for a period of two years. Endesa invested in this
localized project to examine the operational issues of such
an endeavor as well as to get an understanding of the market's
reaction to and the implications of implementing PLC service
prior to moving to commercial deployment nationwide or even
worldwide. Once this pilot is deemed successful, Endesa
will look to service to their entire subscriber base of
22 million connected customers.
One of the operational issues Endesa looked to investigate
was that of an appropriate CRM and financial solution for
such an innovative project. Endesa chose MaxBill to be the
focal point and the base information system for the project's
Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Billing and financial
management. Following the Functional Verification Process
(FVP) and a few months of intensive development and implementation
efforts, the system entered into production.
Benefits of the MaxBill System for the PLC project:
Full multilingual and multi-currency functionality from
